Although one of Brazil’s smaller states RGN is one of the front-runners in terms of tourism and real estate development. Like its neighbour Ceará it shares similar advantages; favourable climate, popular tourist destination, relative proximity to Europe and a burgeoning property market. Still the only north-eastern state with direct flights to the UK, its capital Natal has become a popular jumping off point for Brits in search of sunshine and cheap property. Natal is a charming city of some 800,000 people, well laid out with wide avenues, parks and generous open spaces; reputed also to have the cleanest atmosphere in the Americas. Already well served by daily regular and charter flights from Europe, a new International Airport is under construction just north of the city which is bound to see a further increase in visitors in coming years. With 400kms of coastline and some of the northeast’s finest beaches, recent years have seen serious efforts being made to develop the natural beauty of these coastlands. Access has been greatly improved and essential services provided to many of the outlying areas making them ideal for those in search of their tropical idyll whilst at the same time vastly improving the quality of life for the local inhabitants.
